H.M.S. ACHILLES

VISITS TO N.Z. PORTS PROBABLE AFTER REFIT After undergoing refit at the Devonport Naval Base, Auckland, H.M.S. Achilles will probably pay visits to the other main New Zealand ports so that the citizens can do honour to the officers and men who played such a distinguished and gallant part in the Battle of the River Plate. When asked about the probability of H.M.S. Achilles visiting Wellington, the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, said the Government hoped it would be possible for the ship to visit the other main New Zealand! ports after it had finished its refit and the men had been given leave. No actual decision had been made, as there were certain circumstances that would first have to be considered.
