AMERICAN GOLF TEAM

A golf team chosen for a match which was never played was announced at New York recently by the United States Professional . Golfers’ Association. The Ryder Cup contest between Great Britain and America, which was arranged for November 18 and 19 in Florida, was cancelled before the United States selections were announced. The recent announcement decided the names of those players who would have faced the British team had the match been played. The players named were:—Byron Nelson (United States open champion), Ralph Guldahl, Victor Ghezzi, Jimmy Hines, Harold McSpadyen, Dick Metz, Horton Smith, Henry Picard, Paul Runyan, Sam Snead, and Walter Hagen (nonplaying captain). Gene Sarazen for the first time in the history of the event was not included.
