RECALL TO TURKEY

MERCHANT SHIPPING CERTAIN CRAFT NEEDED OFFICIAL EXPLANATION (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Feb. 29, 2.50 p.m'.) LONDON, Feb. 28. An Istanbul message states it is officially stated that the report that all Turkish merchantmen have been recalled is a “false interpretation of an order issued some time ago calling home certain ships needed in Turkish waters.” The Istanbul correspondent of the Havas Agency had previously confirmed Turkey’s recall of merchantmen from abroad. The correspondent also reports that the Turkish naval mission which went to Hamburg to take delivery of merchantmen which Germany had been building has gone to Paris. Germany authorised delivery, but refused to give any guarantee outside German waters. 1
