AMERICAN OVERTURES

WORLD GOVERNMENTS POST-WAR ADJUSTMENTS (Reed. Feb. 29, 2.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 28. The American Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, at a press conference, revealed that diplomatic conversations with a view to the essential restoration of world peace on a sound and lasting basis, were now proceeding in all the world’s capitals. Copies of his statement in which he declared that conversations with neutral countries were for the purpose of determining an equitable economic basis for peace after the war ended, had been sent to all Governments and not only to neutrals. The action had been taken with a view to preparing for post-war military and economic adjustments. Concrete proposals had not been offered, but the reaction so far had generally been favourable. Specific plans would come later. The immediate purpose was only to get an idea of neutral consultations before the world’s foreign offices.
