£SOO BABY PRIZE
NATIONAL CONTEST CENTENNIAL EFFORT THEATRE CO-OPERATION £50,000 OBJECTIVE National scope is being achieved for the St. John Ambulance centennial baby contest, by means of which it is hoped to raise a fund of £50,000 for equipping the various New Zealand branches of the association with all requirements for the proper discharge of the public duties which the order has undertaken. Entries for the competition are being received in Gisborne, the headquarters for this district being the Majestic Theatre. The national prizes are £SOO for the baby polling the greatest number of votes, and £250 for the runner-up; but there will also be district prizes of substantial value which should ensure a keen and competitive interest in the project. Even for those entries which do not achieve prominence in the competition, there will be lasting mementoes in the form of strips of cinematograph film, and photographs which should be treasured as family possessions. Entrants will be grouped for theatre contests in their respective districts, there being approximately 70 theatres co-operating with the St. John Ambulance to promote the scheme. Winners at individual theatres will be grouped in seven areas in the South Island, and the district winners subsequently will be matched in contests to decide the Island winners. Each of these winners will receive one of the substantial national prizes, as they will be finally matched to decide which shall be the Dominion winner, and which the runner-up. Details of the entry obligations are available at the Majestic Theatre, Gisbornp.
