HOPES OF ROOSEVELT

INFLUENCE FOR PEACE ENVOY TO VATICAN (Reed. Feb. 29. 9 a.m.) ROME, Feb. 27. The Vatican has reteased President Roosevelt’s letter to the Pope and simultaneously the letter nominating Mr. Myron Taylor as Mr. Roosevelt's personal ambassador to the Vatican. Mr. Roosevelt reminded the Pope of ■his suggestion for the dispatch of a personal representative in order to

promote the American and Italian efforts to secure peace and alleviate suffering. Mr. Roosevelt hoped that Mr. Taylor’s activities would provide a channel for an exchange of views promoting international concord and the re-establishment of a more permanent peace based on freedom and assurance of life and integrity to all nations under God.

The Papal court received Mr. Taylor with the traditional ambassadorial ceremony.
