TRADE WITH FRANCE
IMPORTERS* SUGGESTION FOLLOW BRITISH LEAD The Bureau of Importers lias suggested to the Government that it might follow the lead of Great Britain by stimulating trade with France. The following letter was dispatched to the Minister of Customs: “You will have noticed, no doubt, that recently the British and French Governments have been co-operating in the matter of facilitating trade relationships with a view to mutual assistance.' The existing state of war call:; for every effort on the part of the Allies to assist qne another as far as possible, and for this reason the co-operation between the British and French Governments ;s to be commended. In view of the present restrictions of trade imposed on France by virtue of the import controi regulations, 1938, this organisation suggests that the Government should fall into line with actions taken overseas by facilitating trade with our ally, France.” The Minister’s reply 'is as follows: “Replying to your letter of January 18 regarding trade with France, 1 wish to inform you that the suggestion of the bureau in that connection has been noted and you may be assured that, subject to the limitations necessitated by existing circumstances, the Government will give every consideration to the possibility of extending trade between France and this country."
