MEETING OF BOARD RUATORIA ROOM MATERNITY HOME PLANT (Herald Correspondent.) The February meeting of the Waiapu Hospital Board was held in Te Puia this week, those present being Messrs. A. J. 11. Kirkham. chairman, M„ Hyland, W. I-I. O. Johnston, fJV. F. Metcalfe, If. Williams and C. R. E Wood. In regard to the proposed new courthouse in Ruatoria, the chairman reported that during his recent visit to Wellington he had discussed with the authorities the question of the medical consulting rooms, which it was originally proposed to include in the courthouse building. It was announced that a residence for a district nurse was to be erected in Ruatoria, and the .chairman said that he had arranged that a suitable room would be available in this building for medical consultations, so that the medical rooms would be omitted from the courthouse buildings. The chairman reported that a Diesel engine had been offered to the board of a kind which would be suitable for the lighting plant at the Waipiro Bay Maternity Hospital, and as these engines were becoming difficult to secure the offer had been accepted.— This action was approved. It was decided to purchase a motor mower and cultivator for use in the hospital grounds at Te Puia, subject to the plant proving satisfactory when demonstrated. The building committee was instructed to attend to various works requiring attention at the hospital, including the erection of a boiler room to house the gas hot water cifculators. The medical superintendent, Dr. E. C. Grant, reported that admission? totalled 44. patients discharged 29, and patients in hospital 28. Thirty-four operations had been performed. The matron. Miss Cornish, reported that Sister N. Gimplett had joined the staff', and Sister Turnbull had returned from annual leave. The sister in charge at the Waipiro Bay Maternity Home, Miss S. Mackereth, reported four admissions, three patients discharged, and four confinements. Miss W. Jones had resigned from the staff, the vacancy being filled by Sister F. Smith. Nurse M. Christie also had resigned her position owing to ill health.
