PROTEST NOT ENOUGH

GERMAN CLAMOUR THREATS OF REPRISALS (Reed. Feb. 20, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 19. In reference to the action of the British Navy in releasing Britons held prisoner aboard the German vessel Altmarck in Norwegian waters, the German press and radio take up the cry, “protest is not enough,” and threaten Britain with the worst possible disasters as reprisals They declare: “No State is neutral which tolerates such a monstrous crime. A quick decision is necessary now. Delay is dangerous. Norway must repair the damage done.” Field Marshal Geering's paper, the Essener National Zeitung says: “Even after such an incident a neutral can take effective steps and obtain satisfaction, but Norway is not neutral if she disposes of such a crime with a lame protest.”
