BUILDING EXPANSION
PRETORIA’S GOOD YEAR JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 9. Builders and contractors in Pretoria enjoyed a particularly good year in 1939. The municipality passed 1450 plans, representing £1,612,000, compared with about 1400 plans, representing £1.400,000 in 1938. Last year’s total was the second highest since the depression, the record year having been 1936 with an expenditure of £1.776,000.
Most of the plans were for commercial and private buildings, the plans for the Government’s big expansion schemes having been passed in 1938.
