EELS IN WAIKATO RIVER
That eels are thriving and greatly increasing in numbers in the upper reaches of the Waikato River is shown in a large catch taken by a party of Maoris just below the Aratiatia Rapids. In two nights they landed 32 cels, the heaviest weighing 251 b and 191 b. The possibility of eels negotiationg the Huka Falls and reaching Lake Taupo is believed to be remote.
