WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

DISTRICT FEDERATION MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The first meeting for 1940 of the executive committee of the Poverty Bay Federation of Women’s Institutes was held recently in the Y.M.C.A. board-room. All Women’s Institute members are invited to attend. The annual meeting of flic Poverty 3a.v federation will be hold on April 14 in the* Parish Hall, Derby street, nominations for president and the executive committee to be in the hands of the secretary by March 20. Pioneer reports from Women’s Institute’s of eight years and over will be read. The competition will take the form of a written paper on “Whv Women’s Institute’s should carry on despite difficulties and how interest can be maintained.” Two prizes will be given, one to the innividual member and one to the institute sending in the best effort. The pane" vTi be judged more for originality and value ■>f ideas than "or literary value. Entries must be in bv April 10 and each paper is limited to 200 words. The winning entries will be read at the annual meeting.

Tt is hoped that there will be a full attendance of delegates and members al the annual meeting, especially as this wili he the last meeting before the retirep'ont of ihe present president and secretary.
