Lieutenant-Commander H. Prowsell has been appointed naval officer in charge at Lyttelton. He has relieved Commander G. H. D. Dennistoun. Sir Apirana Ngata, M.P., accompanied by Lady Ngata, visited Wairoa during the week-end to attend the tangi and funeral of the late Mr. Hata Tipoki. They returned to Gisborne on Sunday. Mr. D. B. Tennent, senior storekeeper’s assistant to the Public Works Department in Gisborne, has been transferred to a similar position in Auckland and will leave Gisborne on March 1. Mr. Tennent has been stationed in Gisborne for the past three and a-half years. Mrs. Tennent and family will remain here for a short time before following Mr. Tennent to Auckland. The president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), Mr. F. G. Farrell, a member of the council, Mr. H. Thomas, and the secretary of the association, Mr. Geo. W. Hutchison, left Gisborne this morning on their return to Auckland. The touring manager, Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, and safetyfirst instructor, Mr. S. Ringer, left Gisborne this mox-ning for Tolaga Bay and conducted safety-first talks to children this afternoon. Messrs Champtaloup and Ringer will visit Tokomaru Bay to-morrow and Ruatoria on Friday before returning to Auckland via the East Coast scenic highway, via Cape Runaway.
