Farrell, a councillor, Mr. H. ■ Thomas, the Auckland secretary, Mr, George W. Hutchison, Mr. Champtnioup. and the safety-first instructor, , Mr. S. Ringer, Mr. Tolerton said that the attendance. which numbered 300, indicated increasing interest in the work of the association. The membership was increasing all the time. bcin£ now over 1600. Election of Committee He referred to the damage being done in the Gisborne district to signposts. and appealed to all members to see what could be done to prevent such acts of destruction. Thanks were extended to the press, to the residents in the outposts who kept the Gisborne office advised of the condition of the highways, to the traffic inspectors for their co-operation, and the officers and men of the Public Works Department. There were 13 nominations for the II positions on the Gisborne advisory committee and the following were elected: Messrs. A. Baillie, N. H. Bull, V. Butler, C. J. Cox. H. H. De Costa, E. W. Forrest, L. Miles, A. M. Robertson, E, Swinnerton, F. Tolerton and Dr. A. L. Singer. As a young member of the council in Auckland, Mr. H. Thomas said that lie had been amazed at the amount of work done by the association ■in the interests of motorists. Since he had been elected lie had appreciated the splendid team spirit that lay behind the work of the officials and the interest the patrols took in their work. Natural Colour Films Prior to screening some excellent films that he had taken during his visit to Germany. France, England, Scotland, Canada, and America, Mr. Cbamptaloup said that it was 14 years since he first visited Gisborne to start tiie association in this district. The films, mostly in natural colour, dealt not only with interesting methods adopted by various countries for overcoming various traffic problems, but also with points of interest, and held the attention even of those not particularly concerned about the easing of congestion on the highways. After the picture programme of an ; hour apt! a half many in the audience commented on the professional mannerin which the films had been taken and presented.
