TAMARAU

Last month's meeting o£ the; Tamarau Women's Institute was in the form of a picnic at Waihirere, Mrs. R. W. Wallen presiding. The championship bread board was won by Mrs. Markie. Arrangements were made far to-day's best bloom competition at Mrs. Niven’s and the drama circle meeting at Mrs. Elliott's to-morrow. Thanks were extended for offers of firewood needed for social evenings from Mesdames Mason and Clements and Mr. Jones. Members were reminded of the council meeting at Wellington, and remits were studied, and an announcement was made regarding the officers’ school on the Waikanpe Beach. A competition for the best apron from a sugar bag resulted: —Miss Andrew, 1; Mrs. Niven, 2; Mrs, Legg, 3. A competition for a vase of mixed flowers was won by Mrs, Legg. A presentation was made of Waihirere photographs to be placed in the institute album. A paper was read by Mrs. Wallen on Women Institute banners seen at the Centennial Exhibition, and she mentioned Mrs. Elliott’s bridal veil, which had been on view in the women’s court.

Hostesses appointed for next month were Mesdames Harris, Hyarn, Hanna, McCallum and McLeod, and Miss Jones.
