Mr. Max Stevens, Wellington, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Stevens, Harris street, has joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force and is going into camp at Levin to-day.

Miss Sophia Ginger, Hawera, attained her 101st birthday last Thursday. and celebrated it by having her birthday party at the Stratford Mountain House. Miss Ginger still retains her keen mental faculties and loves to recount her experiences of early days in the colony. She still reads avidly without the aid of glasses.

Mang'apapa Tennis Club

A high wind made playing conditions very unpleasant on Saturday, and ■consequently there was only a small attendance of members at the Mangapapa Tennis Club. The hostesses were Mrs. Ansel 1 and Miss G. Woodrow. . Among those present were Misses T. Candy. D. Taylor, M. Crawford, S. Carnegie. N. Cook, M. McDermott, R. Stevens, and T. Muirhead. There was a good attendance of members at the Tc Hapara tennis courts on Saturday, but unfortunately rain marred the play. Afternoon tea was served in the pavilion by Misses B. Dunbar and V. Landon-Lane, dahlias in golden tunings being used with artistic effect in the decoration of the table. Among those present were Mrs. Clarke: Misses A. Bell, V. LandonLane. B. Dunbar. D. and M. Christening Celebrated On .Saturday morning a delightfully informal party was given by Mr. and Mrs. D. C. S. Haim Waikura station, at the home of the tatter's mother, Mrs. F. B. Barker, “Tc Hapara,” to celebrate the christening of their tiny son, Sidney Barker Douglas, who was wearing an exquisite robe, an heirloom belonging to the Barker family. Tea was served in the lounge and ballroom, which were gay with summer blooms, white belladonna lilies and daisies predominating in the artistic decorative scheme. Gisborne Tennis Club

Counler-at f ractions, combined with somewhat unpleasant weather conditions, no doubt were responsible for the small attendance of members at the Gisborne Tennis Club’s courts on Saturday.

Afternoon lea was served in the pavilion during an interval in the play.

Among those present were Mesdamcs D. F. Chrisp. Simmonds, O. R. Olsen, J.’ Holds worth, and R. Hutchinson: Misses M. Allen, M. Simpson, A. Pitcher, and M. Armstrong. The Princesses Royal Lodge, the Kina’s house in the middle of Windsor Great Parlq is being prepared as an evacuation home for Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. The Princesses went there immediately after the Court returned to London from Sandringham, where Christmas was spent. This arrangement will give the King and Queen an opportunity of seeing their daughters at. regu’ar intervals The Princesses motored with the Queen from Sandringham to King's Lynn one day and helped her to make purchases at a departmental store. A jolly dance was held by the Wainui Surf and Life-Saving Club in the Wainui Hall on Saturday night as a fitting finale to the races.

The music was supplied by Mrs. Thomson’s orchestra, and the pleasantly cool weather was an added stimulus to dancing.

Felicitations on her coming-of-agc were showered upon Miss Jill Williams by a large number of friends at the jolly 5 o'clock party given by her parents, Dr. J. W. Williams and Mrs. Williams, at their home in Fitzherbert street on Saturday, to celebrate the occasion.

The weather, unfortunately, was not particularly kind, but indoors all was gaiety. Shaded hydrangeas were used with" artistic effect in the decoration of the drawing-room, and a bowl of mixed flowers was chosen for the adornment of the buffet in the diningroom.

The hostess was wearing an elegant frock of black and white sheer cut on graceful lines.

The celebrant wore a becoming frock of pastel-blue flat crepe accented with a shoulder spray of flowers in soft shades of pink.

Miss S. Williams was smart in a frock of blue-tarn floral sheer.
