: | HOME DEFENCE GROUP NEW GISBORNE DRAFT DEPARTURE NEXT WEEK A total of 19 men from the Gisborne district who enlisted for home defence posts have been called up in a draft which will leave for Wellington on Saturday, February 10. Several of the men are veterans of the Great War, having served either in the New Zealand forces or in British units; while others are serving territorials who are as yet too young to be accepted for active service overseas. They are to join the 2nd Heavy Artillery Group, with headquarters at Fort Dorset, Wellington, and will be trained in artillery work and in guard duties at various points in and around Wellington, the purpose of their selection being mainly to relieve fit men of military service age who are now members of the home-defence units, and who wish to proceed on active service. The members of the draft will comprise the following, ex-servicemen being indicated by an asterisk:— *Babbington, Gerald, single, 47 years, Waimata, labourer. *Clacher, John McFarlane, married, 44 years, Patutahi, book-keeper. *Conly, George, married, 43 years, Gisborne, auctioneer’s assistant. Colvin, William John, single, 19 years, Gisborne, storeman. Cooper, Don, single. 19 years, Gisborne, plasterer. *Eaton, Roy Eric, married, 41 years. Gisborne, traveller. Goodfellow, Thos. .James, single. 20 years, Gisborne, porter. *Green, Harry Benjamen, married, 45 years, Gisborne, steward. Harding, Cecil Thomas, single, 26 years, Gisborne, labourer. Hope, Roger, single, 20 years, Ormond. labourer. Horsburgh, Clifford Traill, single, 19 years, Gisborne, grocers’ assistant. Lennane, William Michael, single, 19, years, Gisborne, porter. McAneney, Ronald Alan, single, 19 years, Gisborne, shop assistant. Martell, George, single, 20 years, Gisborne, factory hand. Quinn, Alfred Peter, single, 18 years, Gisborne, telegraph messenger. Scholium, Donald, single, 19 years, Gisborne, agent. Wade, Wreford Percival, married, 44 years, Gisborne, secretary. Kay, John Stuart, single, 18 years, Gisborne, shop assistant. Moran, Daniel Joseph, married. 23 years, Gisborne, dairy factory assistant. . “ Of the above-named, T. J. Goodfellow, D. Cooper, R. Hope, C. T. Horsburgh, R. A. McAneney, A. P. Quinn, D. Scholium and D. J. Moran are serving territorials. T. J. Goodfellow holds the rank of lance-corporal.
