NEAR EAST ARMIES

ALLIES’ 400,000 TROOPS

ESTIMATE BY RUSSIA

(Reed. Jan. 24, 9 a.m.) MOSCOW, Jan. 23

The Red Army newspaper, Red Star, estimates the French forces in Syria and Lebanon at 300,000 and the British troops in Egypt and Palestine at 100,000. Poles, Czechs, White Russians, Indians and Negroes are included in these forces.

The coastal belt from Aleppo toDamascus is a colossal armed camp, intended to intimidate Britain’s and France’s opponents in the Balkans and spike Italy’s territorial ambitions in the Near East.
