HARBOUR THRILLS

CAPSIZE OF YACHTS Twelve yachts capsized on the Wellington Harbour on Monday when competing in the Anniversary Day Regatta. Many carried away gear and were forced to retire from the races owing to a strong, gusty northerly wind. The choppy water proved too much for some of the small speedboats competing in the championships in Evans Bay and several met with spectacular accidents.

In anticipation of trouble the officials had arranged for launches to patrol the course and these were kept busy rescuing crews and towing boats: back to shelter. Many yachts carried full sail, particularly the Idle Along craft. This was responsible for much of the trouble
