BETTER FACILITIES

WAIROA RACECOURSE

NEW TOTALISATOR

SPACIOUS LAWNS

(Special !o the Herald.) WAIROA, this day

Designed for the purpose of providing better all-round facilities for patrons, many improvements have been carried out at Te Kupenga, the Wairoa Racing Club's course, with the result that visitors to Wairoa for the race meeting to be held on February 1 and 8 will enjoy facilities of a much higher standard than they have experienced at any previous meetings in this district.

The track at present is looking particularly well and with, the railway service in full operation there is every reason for expecting that, despite the present difficulties, the meeting will be the most successful in the history of the club. The most noticeable improvement at the course has been the erection of a new totalisator house to replace the one which has seen service for many years. The new building has been designed on the most up-to-date principle and there is no doubt that the improved facilities which this will offer, will be greatly appreciated by the public on race days. With the erection of new totalisator house, the club has used a great deal of foresight in that it has changed the position of the building, thus allowing for much more spacious lawns. It also shoidd facilitate the car parking arrangements. The site on which the totalisator house is now situated is near the area, formerly occupied by the building in which luncheon and afternoon tea were served, this building also having been shifted a short distance.

Another improvement which adds to the spaciousness of the lawns has been provided by the shifting of the building occupied by the liquor booth to a site farther back towards the hillside.

In addition to these improvements, a new judge’s box has been erected, while the surroundings to the track have been cleaned up in many other ways.
