DEATH IN LONDON

FORMER AUCKLANDER MR. THOMAS WHITELAW The death occurred in London on January 11 of Mr. Thomas Whitelaw, who was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Whitelaw, of Remuera, Auckland. Born in Scotland, Mr. Whitelaw cariie to New Zealand as a boy with his parents in 1881. He was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and commenced his business life in the service of the late Mr. John Buchanan, merchant. He was successively in the employ of the late Mr. Andrew Bell and the late Sir Edwin Mitchelson before he joined the South British Insurance Company. He was manager for the company at Napier for some years. On leaving New Zealand. Mr. Whitelaw took an appointment with the Bank of British West Africa, and spent five years auditing on the Gold Coast. Then followed another five years in the Argentine auditing for Messrs. Deloippe and Plender, of the largest firm of Britisn auditors in the Argentine. Mr. Whitelaw’s next move was to England, and at the close of the last war he was appointed by Mr. Herbert Hoover to take charge in Lille of the auditing of the American Food Relief Commission. After this he retired and had since lived in London. His wife predeceased him some years ago, and he leaves a son and a daughter.
