Enterprising Conductor

i.uiiuuciui Spectators at the parade of the Special Force in Christchurch found that through the enterprise of a conductor a double-decker trailer in Cathedral Square was not to prove the excellent "Caledonian grandstand" that they expected. When the rush of spectators to the Square began, prior to the return of the soldiers to the railway station a portion of the crowd boarded the trailer, and had an unbeatable vantage point. This suited the conductor admirably, for he went the rounds and collected a twopenny fare from each spectator.
