ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND A WEEK’S FESTIVITIES TENT A' I iVE PROGR AMME (Special to tlie 1101-ald.) WAIROA, this day. Now that it has been decided to proceed with the Wairoa carnival, tiie committee in charge of the arrangements has not allowed grass to grow under its feet, and already the arrangements for the week's festivities beginning on Saturday, January 27, and ending on Saturday, February It, are well advanced. A tentative programme has been drawn up. and it is stated that the committee is receiving good support for .its efforts. The following are the officers for the carnival:—Chairman, Mr. G. Powell; deputy-chairman, Mr. W. Peet; secretary, Mr. W. Calder: committee. Messrs. C. Kent. M. Johansen, C. Rose. D. Glengarry, L. Manning, J. Woolf, R. Beckett, F. Hunt, P. McErlain, S. Walker, TI. Patterson, and M. Glengarry. Tentative Programme The following tentative programme has been drawn up:—Saturday, January 27, sideshows and dance; Monday, January 29, procession, side shows and dance; Tuesday, January 30, side shows and plain and fancy dress dance; Wednesday, January 31, A. and P. Show, side shows and show dance; Thursday, February 1, races, children’s fancy dress procession and dance until 10 p.m., side shows and dance; Friday. February 2, window display, back-to-childhood dance, and side shows; Saturday, February 3, races, side shows and final dance. At a meeting of the committee held ibis week it was decided, on the motion of Mr. D. Glengarry, seconded by Mr. Manning, that the action of the chairman, deputy-chairman and secretary in engaging the Mayfair Hall for the week be approved and that a letter be written to the Rev. Father Doherty thanking him for the generous offer made by him. A dance committee, comprising Messrs. Hunt. Johansen, MeEiTain, Patterson. M. Glengarry and J. Crisp, with power to add. was appointed. It was agreed that Miss D. Crompton, of the Turiroa School, be written to regarding the participation of the inter-house sports girls in the procession. Window Dressing Competition On the motion of Mr. R. Drydcn, seconded by Mr. Kent, it was agreed that a window-dressing competition be held and that this be divided into four classes, namely, grocers, tobacconists, drapers, and general. An entrance fee of Is a window is to be charged for this competition, and a committee comprising the chairman, deputy-chairman and secretary be appointed to make arrangements for it. Reference to the excellent work carried out during the last carnival by Mr. Crisp in the capacity of secretary was made by the chairman and Mr. Glengarry ancl it was agreed that the committee’s appreciation of his services be placed on record. The question of securing lorries for the procession was discussed and it was decided that this be left to the
