DEATH OF FARMER
COLLAPSED IN FIELD FOUND BY DAUGHTER While haymaking on his property tn Wainui road, near the intersection of the Sponge Bay road, at 4 p.m. yesterday, a farmer, Alfred Edclsten, aged 68, collapsed and died. At (he time of his death .Mr. Edelslen was working on his own from a low cart. His daughter. Mrs. Gardner. was some distance away in the paddock and made investigations when she thought something might be amiss. She found her father lying on the ground beside the cart, and he was then unconscious. A doctor was called, but it was found that Mr. Edelsten. had died. It was presumed that the deceased had had a fatal heart seizure. No inquest will be necessary. The deceased was an old and highlyesteemed resident of Wainui. having been in that district for more than 40 years. He was a son of the late Mr. James Samuel Edelsten. Motueka, and came to Gisborne from that district when a young man. lie married Miss Frances Sampey. a member of a pioneer family in tire Dominion, and she survives him, together with a family of 10. Sympathy will be extended to his widow and two sons, Messrs. A. and J. Edelsten. Gisborne, and eight daughters, Mqsdames E. Hoe, F. Hatwell, W. Gardner, and A. Barlio. Misses G. and J. Edelsten, ali of Gisborne. Mrs. E. Rasmussen, Opotiki, and Mrs. R. Leeming, Bay of Islands. The late Mr. Edelsten is also survived -by a brother, Mr. F. Edelsten, Motueka, and a sister. Mrs. Flett, Nelson. A service will be conducted at 11
a.m. to-morrow at Cochrane’s chapel, Williams street, prior to the funeral leaving for the Taruhertt cometcry.
