PLANES AND PILOTS
DESPATCH TO HUNGARY ITALIAN SUPPLIES SIGNS OF AGREEMENT (Reed. Jan. 10, Noon.) NEW YORK, Jan. 9. The New York Times correspondent at Sulzberger, in a message from Belgrade, states that quantities of Italian military planes have- recently begun to arrive in Hungary. The Italian, pilots are remaining, this indicating that it is more than a simple commercial transaction. Well-informed circles suspect that ’ lie presence of the planes and airmen is a result of the Italian guarantee of Hungary’s frontiers. Confirmation of such a guarantee would not be a sensational development in European politics, but rather a crystallisation of the present tendencies of Italian-Hungarian relations which are traditionally close and also of the friendship between Budapest and the Vatican. Hungary is determined to defend the Carpathian frontier. Germany at present does not appear to be intending to invade this part of the world but Russia might. It is certain Italy would .help Hungary to defend herself.
