CENTENNIAL CAMP
BOYS’ BRIGADE UNITS 970 NEAR WELLINGTON GISBORNE GROUP WELL Included among the 970 members of the Boys’ Brigade now in camp at Waikanac, near Wellington, are 101 Gisborne district lads, who travelled south late last week in two detachments, and who, according to one of the officers now back in Gisborne, are all well and enjoying themselves hugely. The ollicer who returned to Gisborne yesterday is Mr. Roy Williams, whose connection with the brigade will be interrupted as from next week, when he enters camp as a member of the New Zealand Special Force. Mr. Williams is officer commanding the Second Gisborne Company of the brigade, and before leaving Waikanae handed over the control of his unit to Mr. R. Slichbury, officer of No. 1 Gisborne Company. Associated with Mr. Slichbury is Mr. Marshall, officer of the Manutuke company, who acted as transport officer in connection with the dispatch of the Gisborne district boys. The camp site is on excellent ground, and the most careful preparations for accommodation, feeding, and entertainment of the lads were made prior to the official opening last Saturday. The programme will include an official greeting to the boys from the Mayor of Wellington, when the units travel to the capital to visit the Centennial Exhibition; and more than one Minister of the Crown has shown an interest in the success of the encampment. Wairoa is represented in the -detachment from this district, and the members of their unit were also well and looking forward to further enjoyment when Mr. Williams left the camp.
