Four leaks developed in two days on the Maka-raka-Matawhero length of main, and a similar number in the vicinity of Waingake were receiving immediate attention. The Taumata Hill service reservoir was being relied upon to keep the town supplied with water during repairs. “If rain does not fall before the end of this week,” Mr. Thomas said, “there is every probability that restrictions will have to be placed on the use of water to keep the demand below the stream How.”

The rainfall at Waingake during December totalled 3.42 in., while for the year the total was 38.61 in.
