River Adventure
An adventurous journey was .undertaken by Messrs. George Francis, Patea, and Ron Bates. Waverley, during the holidays when they braved the hazards of the Patea River, from Toko (which is a Maori word meaning to propel a canoe) Jp the river mouth, in a 14ft. canoe, with their sleeping bags and food supplies lodged in two large creainc ans for the purpose of keeping them dry should the canoe overturn. Many rapids had to be negotiated during a journey occupying three days. Both men considered themselves well repaid for their adventure by the wonderful scenery through which they passed.
