GRAND-CROSS AWARD GORT AND IRONSIDE (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.40 p.m. RUGBY, Jail. 8. General' Gamelin to-day invested General Viscount Gort, the British Commander-in-Chief and General Sir Edmund Ironside, the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour. The ceremony was witnessed by the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. Winston Churchill, who is at present on a visit to the British Expeditionary Force.
