FIVE HORSES FALL

TROTTING RACE MISHAP 12 STARTERS INVOLVED ONLY THREE UNAFFECTED There was a spectacular crash in the Intermediate Handicap at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting, only three of the 15 starters not being involved and only five finishing. A similar mishap occurred on the same track during the running of an event at the last summer meeting. With three and a-half furlongs to go. Equerry, of! the limit, tangled and fell, bringing down Golden River, Erin’s Lad, Kohua and Misdeal, and excluding Zingarrie, Chameleon, Balaclava, Aleli, Manpower and King's Navy from the-race. Sulkies, horses and drivers were strewn all over the track, but the only one injured was J. Fraser, junior, driver of Kohua. He was admitted to hospital suffering slight concussion and back injuries. His condition is not serious.

After a lengthy inquiry- instituted by the stipendiary steward into the accident, the judicial committee decided that the evidence disclosed was insufficient to take any action. Evidence before the committee disclosed that Equerry fell first, bringing down the horses stated, and that this horse’s falling was not caused through interference by other contestants in the race.
