JOTTINGS FROM TRACK AND STABLE

LOCAL JOTTINGS TEAMS RETURN HOME TRENTHAM CANDIDATES JOCKEYS’ PREMIERSHIP By “Trenton” Small Boy and Gay Mimic, members of Trainer I. Tinsley's team, are remaining at Hastings under the care of D. N. Ducker and the pair will visit Trentham this month. Both were winners over the holidays and their chances of adding further to their winnings appear bright. In tlie same stable is another Gisborne horse in Bold Step, who also claims an engagement at Trentham and was a winner during the holiday racing. Pair For Trentham Black Thread and Raana will not return home until after the Wellington meeting. Raana is a recent winner and his stablemate showed in his races that he will be about at his best when Trentham comes round. Mendelssohn Well Mendelssohn, who has been under the care of Mr. C. Wright during tho absence of Trainer J. Nixon, is looking a picture and should strip in great order for the Coast circuit. Winner of £3OO A. Mclntosh has returned home with Sly Fox and Blonde Princess. The former won £3OO for his third placing in the Auckland Cup. The Hastings trainer D. N. Ducker has Kinariki arid Hunting Dawn under his care. Out For a Spell Trainer A. McDonald returnee] home with Okawa and Mimicry. Both have been turned out for a spell. This mentor has Black Saint and Waikawa in work. A. Severe Cold De Friend and Native Chief havo returned from Auckland. The former looks in great order to tackle future engagements, but Native Chief has lightened up considerably as a result of a severe cold contracted prior tq racing at Ellerslie. Trainer N. Davis is preparing Gay Laura with the Coast circuit in view, Trainer H. Martin is home again With Jungle King and Plenteous and W. Turnbull with Taharakau, Kintyre and Kincarole. Minnow in Work Minnow has been commissioned again and will probably be seen at tho forthcoming Turf Club’s meeting. Tattersall 14, P. Burgess 12, R, W. McTavish 12, A. Jenkins 12, O. Evans 12, A. E. Ellis 10, R. E. Horne 10, W. Jenkins 10. Encouraging Effort LlandaiT, a three-year-old gelding by Cambria Park from Llandovery, has his first race when he contested the Royal Stakes at Ellerslie and he was one o! the leaders for a good portion of the way. His effort was most encouraging and he should soon be greatly improved by the race. Cambria Park, who is by Kilbroney from Tact, is the sire of Bronwen, the Railway Handicap winner, while Llandovery is by Mountain Knight from Lucien, by Lucullus from Congress. LlandafT, who was bred by Mr. E. A. Price and is owned by Mr. A. D. Potter, is very closely related to Kiltowyn, a good performer several seasons ago, who raced in the same colours. Kiltowyn is by Kilbroney from Towyn, by Lucullus from Congress. To Go To India L'Aiglon, the winner of the Sydney Cup and other races, has been sold by his owner, Mr. Walter Digby, to the Hoyt brothers, and the gelding will eventually be sent to India to race, states the Melbourne Herald. At the conclusion of trie spring meetings in Melbourne, L’Aiglon did not return to Sydney because Mr. Digby contemplated a trip to Adelaide with the gelding for the Port Adelaide Cup. However, Mr. Digby's business interests in New Guinea made it necessary for him to abandon the Adelaide journey, and L’Aiglon was placed on the sale list. F. Southall, who rode for some time in India, knowing that L’Aiglon was for sale, brought the horse under the notice of the Hoyt brothers, who, after inspection, purchased him at a high price. It is understood that L’Aiglon may race in Australia for a few months before being sent to India. He is the type of horse likely to do well in India, as of recent years not many better stayers than The Buzzard gelding have been' sent from Australia to the East. The Hoyt brothers have long been associated with racing in India, where for many years their father was one of the leading trainers. Clark Hoyt was a first-class rider, and won most of India’s most- important events. Although L’Aiglon has a Sydney Cup to his credit, he has been an unlucky horse and has been placed in many important events, including a Sydney Cup, Brisbane Cup and Moonee Valley Cup. “Just My Luck” Backed for £15,000 in an unsuccessful plunge in the Carrington Stakes at

Randwick on December 30, Petruchio was driven from Scone to Sydney on the previous day by his owner, Mr. Alan Cooper.

“I did not want to risk Petruchio, so I looked after him myself on the trip to Sydney,” said Mr. Cooper. “He had done sensational gallops on my private track at Segenhoe, and I thought him a certainty.”

When Petruchio gained a winning break at the turn and was still clear a furlong from home, another plunge on a Cooper horse seemed assured of success, but Petruchio faded in the last 100yds., and finished only third. Mr. Coooer took his defeat philosophically/ ‘‘lt’s just my luck in racing,” he said.
