WATERFRONT DISPUTE “GO SLOW” ALLEGED MEN’S CLAIMS REJECTED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Two hundred waterside workers were afTected this morning when they were discharged following a dispute concerning the unloading of guano from a vessel. The trouble arose over rates of pay and hours of work. The men asked yesterday 4s an hour for six hours a day, but the employers refused. From yesterday afternoon the waterside workers on the vessel began to go slow and eventually slowed work down from 13 tons per hour to four tons an hour. The dispute culminated at 11.30 to-day, though meanwhile the men had raised the output to six tons. The stevedores responsible for handling the cargo decided that work should cease.
