OBITUARY

MR. ANTHONY MASSEY EARLY DAYS IN NORTH One of the pioneers of North Auckland, Mr. Anthony Massey, died this week at Papakura at the age of 75. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Massey, were members of the Albertland party who arrived in New Zealand ip 1803 by the ship Tyburnia. They took up land in the Maungaturoto district, and Mr. Anthony Massey, who was the eldest son, lived upon the original farm block for over GO years. Subsequently he left his son in occupation of the property and took up residence at Papakura. Born in the north when the distric l was roadless, Mr. Massey endured the hardships of the early pioneer days Possessed of an exceptionally good knowledge of stock, he was for 11a >y years a familiar figure at northern stock sales. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters. MR. R. A. MEAD The death has occurred of Mr. Roderick Arthur Mead, of Waitetuna, Waikato, aged 58. Mr. Mead was a well-known competitor at sheep-dog trials throughout New Zealand and also judged at a number of trials. He was born in Nelson and as a young man worked as a shepherd on several stations. Later he managed a number of stations, including the well-known Matengareka and Cape Runaway holdings. Mr. Mead is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
