Lord Mottistone, chairman of ■ the national savings movement, announced on Wednesday that the total raised by
the campaign now exceeded £40,000,000. He said he could not support the proposal that compulsorysavings should be introduced. “I am quite sure,” he said, "it is far better for the savings of the people to be the result of their own voluntary effort.”
