CHEERS IN SYDNEY

EXPEDITIONARY FORCE MEN OF NEW ARMY MARCH THROUGH CITY (Reed. Jan, 5, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 4. A portion of Australia’s new army for overseas marched through Sydney’s main traffic thoroughfares to-day in brilliant sunshine. They were cheered by an admiring crowd of 500,000 people who thronged the two and a-half mile route. The saluting base outside the city Town Hall was occupied by an impressive group of military leaders, including the Governor-General Lord Gowrie, and the commander-in-chief of the Australian military forces. Lieutenant - General Sir Thomas Blarney, who will lead the army into battle. Six thousand men took part in the parade, which created a deep impression on the people.
