DRAFT DIVIDED

SECOND ECHELON MEN GISBORNE DISPATCHES SUCCESSIVE MORNINGS JANUARY 1 i AND 12 Owing to the necessity for allowing additional time for travelling to the more distant camps, the Gisborne draft for the Second Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force will be divided, one group leaving on the early morning of January 11, and the other on the early morning ot January 12. All men called for the Second Echelon are to report in their respective camps by the evening of January 12. Men bound for Burnham, in the South Island, and for Ngaruawahia and Papakura, in the north, are to form the first division of the draft. Those bound for Trentham will be dispatched on the following morning. Burnham is the centre of training for Field Ambulance men. Ngaruawahia contains the training facilities for the New Zealand Artillery and the Anti-Tank Regiment; and Papakura has facilities for the New Zealand Engineers and the Divisional Cavalry training. Men posted to these units will form a group of 32 for dispatch on January 11. Men posted to the Rifle Battalion, the Divisional Petrol Company, the Reserve Motor Transport Company, and the Anti-Tank Company of the Rifle Battalion, will provide a draft of 63 for the later dispatch. The total number of men to be sent from Gisborne, the East Coast and Wairoa now stands at 95. One of the men nominated originally for the Rifle Battalion, F. M. Olliver, is now in Christchurch, and he has been transferred to the list for the New Zealand Field Ambulance. His place in the Rifle Battalion will be taken by S. G. L| Smythe, Tokomaru Bay. Another change has been occasioned by the transfer of H. M. Moir from the New Zealand Engineers to the Royal New Zealand Air Force. His place in the engineers’ draft from Gisborne is to be taken by A. S. Scragg, Tolaga Bay.
