THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General situation: An intense anticyclone extends over New Zealand, from the north-west. Forecast: Winds light to moderate and variable over the North Island, gradually freshening northerlies to north-westerlies about and south of Cook Strait. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rather rough south of Westport and about Foveaux Strait, elsewhere slight or moderate.
