BIRTHS INCREASE

DECLINE IN DEATHS HIGHER MARRIAGE TOTAL FIGURES FOR GISBORNE Gisborne’s vital statistics for the past year are entirely favourable, births and marriages having increased and deaths being lower. The figures for December, however, arc not so favourable. Births showed an increase of nine, but deaths increased by five and marriages declined by two, compared with December, 1938. For the year there was an increase of 21 in the number of births, a decline of 33 in the number of deaths, and the substantial increase of 44 in marriage notices issued.
