A brief cablegram published in the New Zealand papers on Tuesday last announcing the promotion of Group Captain F. H. M. The rank being so high—equivalent to the army’s brigadier-general and the navy’s commodore —inquiries were immediately made in Waiuku. by the Auckland Star but neither officials nor citizens had heard of Maynard or of the Maynard family, inquiries were made in Wellington without result. New Zealand Royal \ir Force headquarters had never heard of Air-Commodore Maynard, rhe question is still being asked who is this distinguished New Zealander.
