LAUNCH DISABLED
TEMPORARY BREAKDOWN CREW’S ANXIOUS TIME An uncomfortable feeling was experienced by a party of four fishermen during the holidays when the battery of the engine of their launch shortcircuited and their disabled craft was tossed about in a choppy sea two miles off the Mahia Peninsula for four hours. A member of the party was Mr. L. Rhodes, Gisborne, who was with some natives from the Wairoa district, Messrs. N. Makori and Greening (2).
As soon as the trouble was located Mr. Rhodes fastened a white singly to the masthead as a signal of distress in the hope that some look-out might notice their plight. However, no assistance was forthcoming from the shore and after a few hours’ rest the battery recovered sufficiently to start the motor again.
