PATRIOTIC FUND
NEARLY £7OOO TOTAL SUBSTANTIAL SUMS COMPANY'S £IOOO GIFT FAMILY FINDS £2300 (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Donations received recently by the National Patriotic Fund Board in Wellington swell considerably thcfunds previously acknowledged, the total fbr general patriotic purposes being now nearly £7OOO. These donations are separate and apart and in addition to the contributions received by the board through the patriotic seal campaign. The list contains some substantial contributions from provincial patriotic councils, business firms and individuals. The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, has forwarded a donation of £250. The Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand Limited has sent a cheque for £IOOO and the National Bank of New Zealand Limited a cheque for £250. Several business firms have given £IOO each and Sir Harry Batterbee, the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, has given £25. A notable contribution is that by the Todd family, of Wellington. .Mi and Mrs. Charles Todd have given £IOOO and eight other members or their family have given between, them £I3OO, making a total contribution of £2300.
In addition to the general donations, a contribution of £SOO has been received from the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council for the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy in recognition of the gallant part played by H.M.S. Achilles in the naval action against the German pocket-battleship. Admiral Graf Spec.
