Te Karaka Sports Club Ball
The Te Karaka Sports Club’s ball, arranged as a finale to the New Year’s Day sports meeting in Te Karaka) proved an unqualified success. Despite the unusually warm weather the Waikohu Hall was filled with visitors, and a merry throng danced until a late hour to music provided by Miss L. Ruru’s orchestra.
The floor was supervised by Mr. H. Bonniface, and during the supper interval much-appreciated extras were contributed by Mrs. H. Bonhiface and MissjK. Morris. The supper. arrangements were carried out under the direction of a ladies’ committee comprising Mesdames R. Stephenson, J. Goodley, J. Tuke, H. Bonniface, W. Greggan, and W. O’Grady, and dancers enjoyed a dainty supper at prettily decorated tables on the stage.
Among those present were Mrs. R. Stephenson, wearing navy crepe de chene with lace trimmings; Mrs. H. Bonniface, apple green lace over taffeta; Mrs. J. Tuke, brown marocain with a floral design in white; Mrs. J. Goodley, navy and white spotted crepe de chene'; Mrs. C., G. Atkins, black faille; Mrs. J. V. Castles, bottle green matalasse, with a capelet of embossed velvet; Mrs. H. O’Conpell, pale green taffeta appliqued in mauve and having a mauve shoulder spray. Mrs. E. Cranswick’s frock was of black georgette with sequin accents; Mrs. R. H. Brown, dresden blue taffeta; Mrs. If. Kirkpatrick, white tunic over Burgundy velvet; Mrs. A. Hay,. navy floral taffeta; Mrs. D. Craill, mulberry velvet with a sequin vestee;' Mrs. V. Tait, petunia taffeta; Mrs. W. Parsons, navy floral marocain; Mrs. T. Markwick, pink satin. Mrs. B. A. Redmond had chosen a blue cocktail suit; Mrs. R. Burgess, white lace over pink satin; : Mrs. B. Thomas, peach floral crepe;] Mrs. P. Edwards, green satin and “Idee; Mrs. G. Jones, nut brown satin; Mrs. W. Ruru, checked sheer in brown tones; Mrs. D. Campbell, mulberry velvet; Mrs. A. Lloyd, yellow embossed chiffon; Mrs. K. Pritchard, mauve taffetas; Mrs. R. Bright (Rotorua), blue sheer: Mrs. A. Michie, black satin patterned in autumn shades; Mrs. J. .Bull (Wairoa), white wind-swept satin;-Mrs. J. Halliday, black moire satin; Mrs. M. Brown, black crepe de chene. Miss V. Bull wore white voile printed in flame shades; Miss M. Nisbett, green checked organdie over orange satin; Miss M. Stephenson, green crepe de chene; Miss L. Ruru, white romaine with a silver lame coatee.
Miss F. Hood’s frock was of blush pink broderie Anglaise; Miss P. Appleton, white silk net embroidered in green, with a matching bolero; Miss M. O'Donnell (Palmerston North), floral georgette patterned in blue; Miss Josephine Scott, emerald green satin: Miss E. M. Dowding. jade green taffetas; Miss D. Mills, pink shimmer ‘ satin; Miss H. Ruru, pink; self-spotted taffeta; Miss M. Willson, turquoise blue georgette with sequin accents: Miss L- Armstrong. silver lame; Miss G. Miss M Shelton’s frock of green linen was accented with white; Miss B. Thompson, cherry georgette threaded with silver; Miss N. Castles, green taffetas; Miss G. Parsons, rose pink net over brocaded taffeta; Miss P. Mills, ivory satin and a scarlet waist belt; Miss B. Hynes, ciel blue moire taffeta; Miss K. Williams, clover triple sheer Miss M.
