General Franco, in a new year address to the people of Spain, declared his faith in a prompt Spanish renaissance, despite the havoc of the civil war. states a report frbm the Hendayc correspondent of The Times. General Franco added that the falange wrlld lead in carrying out, without raneimr, the national revolution. All riches must be more equitr ably distributed, the salaries of civil servants would be increased by 10 to 40 per cent, infantile mortality and slum dwellings would be remedied, imports would be reduced from countries not purchasing from Spain and industrial self-sufficiency would be attained. Spain’s ruin was due to delivering 48,000 tons of shipping to Russia.
