SUBDUED HOPE
DENMARK’S OUTLOOK FATE OF NEUTRALS WARNING VOICED MUST STAND TOGETHER d (Eloc. Tiil. Copyright — United Press Assn.) (Reed. Jan. 3, 9 a.m.) COPENHAGEN, Jan. 2. The Danish Prime Minister, M. Stauning, said in an interview: “I am as depressed about the future as I have ever been and have long ceased to believe in anything. Denmark is entering 1940 with subdued hope. The character of the terrain has prevented the construction of a defence line such as other countries have built. “Denmark is forced to remain passive and impartial regarding the conduct of the war. It is not for me to say what is Russia's object in attacking Finland, but the nations could not be indifferent to Finland’s fate. The small neutrals will go under if the war continues to effect them as it has done so far. They must hold together or go out together.”
