OFFICIAL GOOD-BYE
SPECIAL FORCE MARCH IN WELLINGTON Soldiers of the Special Force from the central district mobilisation camp, Trentham, will be accorded an official farewell by the Government and the civic authorities in the grounds of Parliament Buildings, Wellington, on Wednesday, January 3. They will be addressed by the Governor-General, Lord Galway, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop. Later the soldiers will march through the city and back to the railway station to entrain for Trentham again. The Wellington returned soldiers also will take part in the parade.
The parade strength of the Special Force units will be approximately 1900, and the officer commanding will be Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D., officer commanding the 19th Wellington Battalion. The bands of the 2nd Field Brigade, N.Z. Artillery and the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own), and the Pipes and Drums of the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment, will be in attendance.
