“FILL IT UP"
PETROL TANKS LOW RESTRICTIONS LIFTED RESELLERS SATISFIED “It appeared as if most motorists had used all their November coupons and their tanks were fairly low because they came in at the week-end with substantial orders for petrol," said a service station proprietor today referring to the lifting of the petrol restrictions in Gisborne. The lifting of the restrictions coincided with brilliant weather for the week-end and the urge to travel out of town to the beaches on the Coast seemed uppermost in the minds of many GiSborne owners of cars. The service stations expected a change of some sort, tout the business turn-over on Saturday and Sunday exceeded their highest expectations.
The service Station proprietor considered that the public had received the increased price for petrol in a philosophical manner, probably because the increases were added in small rises. Motorists’ main concern seemed to be to get sufficient petrol for their requirements, the cost being a secondary consideration.
“Fill it up,” was the pleasant instruction received on numerous occasions by another attendant, who was better pleased when he noticed that the supplies in the tanks were very low.
“It is much better now because we do not have to sign licenses and attend to coupons, which made the restrictions even more depressing,” said a third man.
