YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB

GISBORNE FIELD DAY SHOW PRESIDENT’S FARM CULLING COMPETITION Last Saturday a very successful and interesting field afternoon was held by the Gisborne Young Farmers’ Club, arranged by Mr. Roland Graham, president of the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association and one of the club’s vicepresidents, on his Pukemata station, Ormond. There was a good attendance, approximately 30 members being present. The afternoon’s proceedings commenced with a ewe hogget culling competition. Each of the competitors was given 10 ewe hoggets, and was required to cull out five of the given number for commercial reasons. The competition was judged by Mr. A. Kirkpatrick, who, at the conclusion, gave a comprehensive lecture, on the fundamental principles of a commercial fiock. A diversion of interest was created when Mr. L. G. Woodward gave a practical demonstration on the castration of yearling colts. Mr. Woodward’s skill was warmly commented upon by those who witnessed the operations.

At the close of flic programme, afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Graham, after which the chairman of the club, Mr. G. W. Smith, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Graham for their hospitality, and expressed appreciation of the help of Messrs. Woodward and Kirkpatrick.
