ESCAPE—THEN CRASH

NEW YORK. Oct. 12. After twice escaping from submarines in the Atlantic the British steamer Newton Pine reached Houston. Texas, to-day. William Rowan, 39-vear-old ship’s fireman, of Birkenhead. celebrated by taking a motor trip.

Two hours later the car crashed Mr. Rowan was killed.
