RETENTION URGED
WHEAT CERTIFICATION APPEAL BY GROWERS (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. There is every possibility that the Department of Agriculture will not proceed with its plans for abandoning, as an economy measure, the certification of seed wheat. A matter of vital interest to farmers and millers, certification guarantees the quality and the yield. This morning, members of the Wheat Committee and the South Canterbury growers met the director of the Fields Division, Mr. R. B. Tennent, and told him that to stop certification would be a retrograde step. Mr. Tennent replied that he would discuss the situation with the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, on his return to Wellington, and he felt confident the request for continuing the scheme would meet with favourable consideration.
