U-BOAT POWER

NEUTRAL ESTIMATES

RUSES DISCLOSED

(Reed. Oct. 21, 3 p.m.) COPENHAGEN, Oct. 20.

A former Danish naval officer, writing in the Beriingske Tidende, says that Germany has built at least 10 XJ-boats since the war and her strength in submarines, taking into account the losses, is now 75.

The total of U-boats in the last war was 400. No doubt Germany would be able to repeat the figure, states the correspondent. “The U-boats now being built have torpedoes showing no line on the water,” he adds. “The Germans are up to all kinds of dodges to mislead an enemy. They stud the torpedo tubes with oil and wreckage and even sailor hats and shoot them out to make the attacker think that the U-boat has been sunk.”
